The Rotary is a service association of business and professional leaders united world-wide who conduct humanitarian projects, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and work toward world understanding and peace.
The Rotary Club of Centreville, Maryland has been working in Queen Anne’s County since 1927 in fellowship and service to others upholding the ideals of Rotary as well as its two mottos:
"Service Above Self" and "He Profits Most Who Serves Best."
This event will benefit ongoing charitable projects just a few of many are listed below:
The Rotary House, Polio Eradication, College Scholarships, etc.
The Rotary House, the newest and most ambitious project, the construction and maintenance of a new home providing a temporary shelter for battered women.
Dictionary Project, the Rotary Clubs of Centreville and Kent Island joined efforts to support a nationwide literacy project which involves giving dictionaries to every 3rd grader in QAC, an active project since 2001.
World Affairs Seminar, and similar programs; Centreville Rotary has sent interested high school students to meet with other young people from North America and world exchange students at a future leaders forum to address some of the world’s most perplexing problems.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, this local conference provides leadership training in a relaxed campground atmosphere.
Local Campership Program, provides scholarships for children from 5 to 12 to attend summer day camp based on financial need. This program started in 2003 helps parents who are not otherwise qualified for state welfare grants to send their children to camp for a couple weeks.
Character Counts, a program where an adult teaches character building skills one half hour a week at local schools. Rotary, along with many other organizations encourage participation.
Mentoring, Rotarians are encouraged to become mentors to at risk youth in our schools. This involves a commitment of one hour a week to meet with a student at school. The objective is to give the student a positive role model as well as some help in overcoming any difficulties at school.
